Regional Ministry
OctoberCamp 2011
Scripture Union volunteers from local churches prepared a variety of activities for the recent OctoberCamp held at Thuruna Campsite. Participants chose from zumba dancing, kayaks, footy games, croquet and crochet! James Van Loon (pictured) from Adelaide was the special guest who explained Bible stories in a way young people related to. Those attending came from Tumby Bay, Cummins, Wanilla, Whyalla and Port Lincoln.

Bible College SA students and faculty made a week-long visit to the Eyre Peninsula.

They participated in a High School Seminar ‘Global Connections’ at Tumby Bay and Cummins schools,

a Regional Youth Event: ‘G’ is for Generosity where 70 people gathered for a night looking at why generosity can and should be part of everyday life.

Church visits took place across Port Lincoln and Tumby Bay districts,

and Christian Option Programs (COP) ‘Friends to the End’ was presented in two new schools, as well as teams returning to schools visited last year.
Thank you! So many people were involved in setting up the week, having guest speakers, or hosting in their own homes. It is amazing to see how people with such diverse gifts can help in a variety of ways. A huge thank you to all of you!
Follow up… Many children and young people requested their own bible and SU resources with will be delivered in the next couple of weeks.

'Connect Youth Service' was held at Cummins on Friday night September 3rd with high school age youth and young adults attending from across the region. The theme of connecting with God and with each other was explored through radio-style interviews. The aim of Regional Youth Events is to gather young people for a church service which is relevant and interactive. Connect was an event run by members of local churches with support from

December 2009
Adelaide band Sacred Stone toured Lower Eyre Peninsula with support from Scripture Union SA. During the week there were visits to schools to present Christian Option Seminars, a chapel service, classroom discussions and even some beach cricket! It all culminated in a Friday night youth concert in Port Lincoln. This was well attended with support from SU volunteers in running the event.

Students were able to enjoy lunchtime performances, engage in the presentations, which included familiar songs, stories both personal and from the Bible. There were lots of laughs as well as something deeper to think about. More information is available at:
www.sacredstone.com or find them on Facebook!
Thanks to the schools for having the band visit during that crazy last week of school. Also, a huge thank you to local SU Volunteers for hosting, providing food, accommodation & venues and lots of good times!

Regional Youth Events

Recently we coordinated a Youth Service at Cummins (pictured are local lads who provided music on the night). New Uniting Church minister Matthew Carratt shared an interactive message and inspired us to all play our part in what God is up to. The night was a great success and well supported. About 80 people were in attendance. The RYE Team is keen to receive feedback and look at ideas and possibilities for the future.
Regional Youth Events are a new initiative on Lower Eyre Peninsula.

The first event, the Mega ‘End-of-Term’ Party in July, was an awesome night! It provided a fun and safe environment for high-school aged youth to meet young people from other townships. The event featured three hours of non-stop action, DJ, live music, inside and outside games, beading, photo booth, pool comp, rip stick obstacle course, food to purchase and hot drinks from the SUSA Fair Trade Café!

Recent Lower Eyre Peninsula News

After discussion with local ministers and volunteers, Scripture Union SA has recently placed a staff member on Lower Eyre Peninsula. Glenys Tiller, who was previously SU’s Camps Coordinator, is now living in Tumby Bay and is developing connections in Cummins, Port Lincoln, Cleve and Cowell and the smaller townships in between. The aim of this is to work with local churches in better supporting those in need in their local community in practical ways, and helping to build resilience and hope in those communities.
A local Ministry Development Team consisting of people from across the Lower Eyre Peninsula has been formed to support Glenys. This group represents a cross-section of church backgrounds, ages and life experience. Glenys will be accountable to this group.
SU’s aim is to support local churches in engaging with their community. SU can provide a framework for new ventures related to key issues for children and young people, and help them to explore aspects of the Christian faith in an unpressured way.
