ABOUT US
History
Over forty years ago the Tumby Bay Scripture Union Beach Mission started on the beach at Tumby Bay with most of the activities held outdoors and retreat to a tent or rotunda if the weather turned sour. As the programme grew the mission moved to the yacht club rooms and now to the Recreation Centre.
How We Function
Family Mission is run by a team of about 50 volunteers, from a range of Christian Churches, who give up a week of their vacation to provide the programme for up to 100 children per day. To meet current standards for duty-of-care, each member applies to join the team, provides referees to vouch for them (usually their minister and one other) are subject to a police check. More than half the team are not ‘local’ so they travel to Tumby Bay at their own expense. Through the support of local churches and people, their living expenses are minimised.
Children attending the programme are not expected to make any contribution to costs. If parents and others wish to support the Mission they can make a donation towards costs. Most of our support comes from local churches, their members, fundraising activities and small contributions from Tumby Bay.
