Youth Leadership Week
Identifying and developing emerging young leaders
Next camp:
YLW '12 Tuesday July 9th - Friday, July 12th 2012 (2nd week of the mid-year holidays)
When is leadership identified, encouraged and developed? As early as possible! The aim of Youth Leadership Week is to resource churches and schools in identifying and developing emerging leaders for now and the future.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP WEEK BRINGS YOUNG EMERGING LEADERS TOGETHER TO:
• Inspire them to participate in what God is doing in his world;
• Facilitate their personal development;
• Help them discern their God-given vocation;
• Provide mentoring opportunities;
• Develop them biblically and theologically;
• Build a mutually inspiring leadership community.
TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS, YOUTH LEADERSHIP WEEK WILL:
• Enable them to meaningfully engage with the Bible and grow in their Christian faith
• Provide leadership opportunities through action oriented, team based learning;
• Stretch them personally, physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually;
• Facilitate a personal growth plan (PGP)for their development;
• Link them to a 12 month mentoring program;
• Train mentors in churches & schools to help them support the young leader;
• Connect their learning experiences back to their local church and school.
Youth Leadership Week combines action orientated team based activities with input from the Bible, small groups, reflection, coaching, and stories from current leaders.
MISSION FOCUS
We aim to inspire young leaders to participate in what God is doing through Jesus in rescuing and transforming his world. Their school is one of many meaningful places where they can do this. Students can do significant things in schools, and we want to empower them to do so by helping them in developing opportunities to live out and communicate their faith at school.
CHURCH PARTNERSHIPS
It is our conviction that the local Church is a key point for a young leader's development. As we partner local Churches, young leaders must be ‘sent’ by their local Church or their school. We encourage church leaders to supporting those they send in prayer, sponsoring them for some of their YLW fees, giving opportunities to report back what they have learnt, and making space to take roles of service and leadership.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Students in years 9 – 12 who are ready and willing to be challenged and developed personally, and in their leadership. A partnership with some of SA’s main denominations, the week-long camp in July, linked with a 12 month mentoring program, develops emerging student leaders in years 9-12 to be effective in ministry in their church and school.
WHO runs YLW?
Youth Leadership Week has come about through the joint vision and collaboration of numerous Christian denominations under the administration of Scripture Union South Australia. As such, it is an interdenominational venture and open to grow further in this way as other denominations wish to adopt YLW's aims.
WHY is it run?
YLW was begun in 2008 with the mutual conviction of a few state youth leaders that there ought to be deliberate, systematic programs that help support churches and schools think and build towards strength into the future. The process of developing good leadership is not a mystery! The Bible provides clear steps. Healthy church leadership comes about when the process of leadership identification and nurturing is supported from the beginning all the way through to formal positions of leadership. YLW seeks to help churches and schools provide that supportive environment beginning at the age when young people start to display their giftedness and are thinking about their life direction.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
